Managing Destination Editor

We have a great opportunity for a Managing Destination Editor to join our Content team based in our London office. This role is offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract reporting to the Head of Content in the London office.
Overview of the role:
Our team of three Managing Destination Editors are accountable for leading and inspiring a dynamic team of Destination Editors (DEs) and Senior Editors (SEs) to ensure destination content flow, commercial and quality objectives are achieved. They lead and manage the day-to-day operations, coaching and training of the DE and SE team, ensure a cohesive and consistent approach is applied to all work and make sure that DEs and SEs are provided with the guidance and resources they need to do their jobs effectively. 
Responsibilities of the role:  
  • Manage team resourcing and high-level workload to ensure team goals are met.
  • Develop and maintain a productive, collaborative and harmonious team culture and work environment.
  • Support the DEs and SEs in maintaining and expanding a vibrant pool of high-quality content providers and editors that can consistently deliver the best travel content to Lonely Planet.
  • Work with content and product teams to ensure effective decision-making and communication between the various departments and functions.
  • Oversee commissioning costs to ensure the commissioning and provision of content is managed by DEs in a cost-effective manner.
  • Work within Lonely Planet’s house style and editorial principles to provide editorial framework, quality and style parameters.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of content commissioning initiatives, destination content strategy and ongoing programs of work to ensure the creation and delivery of high-quality content that meets the needs of travellers is streamlined and flows as efficiently as possible.

  • Excellent people management, relationship building, training and liaison skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation/persuasion skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize workload while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Commissioning experience.
  • Extensive editorial experience (3–5 years) and understanding and knowledge of editorial conventions and standards.
  • Team focused with a flexible, adaptable attitude and a proactive, constructive approach.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
  • Experience managing budgets.
  • Experience working with content management systems.
  • Passion for travel.
