The Lead UX / UI Designer is a highly collaborative role within the Client Solutions (CS) team and works to support sales, account management, product development and ad ops teams to achieve global targets and objectives. The Lead UX / UI Designer plays a pivotal role in helping generate revenue for the business through the creation and implementation of custom editorial and marketing products. As an expectation of working in CS, the Lead UX / UI Designer will be commercially-minded with a willingness to push boundaries in order to drive revenue for the business.

The Lead UX / UI Designer is responsible for contributing to creative brainstorms and product ideation, designing innovative digital and print products, creating wireframes, prototyping and overseeing product builds - all with the ability to demonstrate clear design thinking with the client in mind. The ideal candidate will possess an innovative, curious nature that will inspire the CS team to create new product solutions, but will also motivate, grow, and help cultivate a talented team of designers. S/he will also be comfortable creating and managing design initiatives in a fast-paced environment with the ability to pivot and adjust priorities as necessary, all while championing Lonely Planet and Lonely Planet partners’ brands.

Depending on the project, you’ll likely be responsible for:

  • Participating in the ideation, creation, and delivery of products for CS across all channels including digital products such as microsites, mobile apps, and UGC, as well as custom print and video ensuring a consistent brand experience while satisfying clients’ requirements
  • Engaging in campaign development, contributing to campaign brainstorming, and specifying design and UX/UI details through wireframes, visual mocks and/or prototypes
  • Making sure all projects meet the project brief specifications and deliver on agreed deadlines
  • Building digital products with underlying frameworks that can scale and be used for other projects.
  • Creating high quality sales support materials that illustrate our sellable products and visually communicate our capabilities through mocks and sales pitch decks, often on short deadlines
  • Managing incoming requests and appropriately distributing to design team members, while managing multiple projects and deadlines
  • Prioritizing projects, maintaining reasonable staff workloads, and communicating bandwidth issues when necessary
  • Remaining agile, flexible, inventive, and collaborative; with the ability to expedite rush jobs when necessary, while ensuring work continues to flow in a timely, efficient manner
  • Forging strong cross functional relationships with Brand and Digital Product teams to ensure all CS creatives meet Lonely Planet brand and design guidelines
  • Collaborating with the Commercial Product team to create new products, specification documents, and design templates to support B2B initiatives
  • Living on the cutting edge of technology and design methodologies including software, applications, usability trends, and design (digital, interactive and print) that may impact the effectiveness and efficiency of the CS design team
  • Securing and managing freelancers/outside resources for Design, as necessary
  • Managing file systems and assets, both internal and external, traffic links to sales and/or partners as requested/necessary
  • All other duties as assigned

Our mandatory qualifications include:

  • BA degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Design or related discipline
  • 5+ years of relevant experience at a design firm/agency working on global brands
  • Experience in Adobe creative suite and the latest web design and prototyping software including Sketch (InVision, Axure)
  • Experience with front-end development principles with the ability to relay concepts and propose functionality to the development team
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex concepts into easy-to-understand visuals
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and efficiently with cross-functional teams, present and explain design ideas, problem solve and make decisions to accomplish shared initiatives
  • Expressed interest in keeping up to date with state of the art UX/UI design, new technologies and behavioral trends

Some additional skills that may help you stand out:

  • Enthusiastic, inspired attitude with the ability to confidently communicate UX/UI principles
  • Management of creative teams, workflows, and creative processes
  • Ability to write code (CSS, JavaScript, HTML)
  • Experience with ad generation and manipulation as well as Bannerflow
